The Dean of the Faculty of Law of Charles University invites applicants to take part in an open hiring procedure regarding one full-time position as researcher at the Department of Economics

Term: commencement – Spring 2022 (ideally March 2022 with some flexibility upon agreement)

FTE (full time equivalent): 1.0

Description of the mobility: The researcher is to enrich the existing team. The researcher is to consult research projects with the members of the Department and with other academics and doctoral students of the Faculty, and is expected to carry out his or her own project. The researcher is to present his or her own research during scientific seminars of the Department and the Faculty.

The research project of the researcher can be focused on any branch within the economic analysis of law. Slight preference is to be given to applicants focused on empirical research (estimation of causal impacts and quantitative text analysis) or experimental methods (both fieldwork and laboratory research).

The researcher coming from abroad is to be employed at the Faculty as full-time researcher. He or she will be obliged to take active part in at least one conference/seminar/workshop, etc., organized by Charles University in the course of the mobility.

Requirements:

  1. As on the date of commencement of mobility, the applicant should have worked in research for at least 2 years during the last 3 years in an organization outside the Czech Republic with the workload of at least 0.5 FTE. Czech citizens are not excluded.
  2. The applicant was awarded Ph.D. or similar degree (an equivalent of level 8 under ISCED) at least 7 years before the commencement of the mobility.
  3. During the last five years, the applicant should have been engaged in at least one international3 or national4 grant project in the capacity of main researcher or co-researcher1.
  4. The applicant should prove that during the last five years he or she has had at least three publications (i.e. publications registered in the databases Thomson Reuters Web of Science, Scopus or ERIH PLUS in the form of “article”, “book”, “book chapter”, “letter” or “review”).2

Applicants are to submit:

  1. A letter of motivation.
  2. Documents proving their completed doctoral degree (plain copies are sufficient).
  3. A brief description of their research project to be developed during the mobility. 
  4. Professional CV (structured, including a list of publications and experience).

All the documents are to be submitted in English. Applicants who will have failed to comply with the requirements would be excluded from the hiring procedure.

Schedule of the open hiring procedure

  • Publishing of the Call – 1 November 2021
  • Deadline for applications – 1 December 2021
  • Interviews within the procedure 4 – 10 December 2021
  • Announcement of results – by 17 December 2021
  • Date of commencement – Spring 2022

Mode of evaluation:

The fulfilment or non-fulfilment of the relevant criteria is to be evaluated by a committee composed of a minimum of three members appointed by the Dean of the Faculty. The committee is to select from all applicants those who are to be invited for an interview. In the case of foreign applicants the interview can be held via SKYPE or a similar on-line platform.

The evaluating committee is to assess individual applicants at their common meeting according to the following criteria:

Criterion 1: Quality of the proposed research project.

Criterion 2: Number and quality of publications.

Criterion 3: Benefits for the hosting department regarding knowledge and scientific methods in the field of economic analysis of law.

The process of evaluation is to be described in a written report which is to contain information regarding the composition of the committee; evaluation criteria applicable to the applicants; ranking of applicants and reasons therefor.

3 International project grants are such means that are acquired by an applicant in international grant competitions, particularly H2020, but also in other foreign programmes and schemes where the selection of winning recipients of grants is decided by a foreign or supranational institution (e.g., the European Commission, COST, European Science Foundation, foreign grant agency, foreign foundation providing research grants, etc.). An international grant project must fulfil all the following requirements: a) it is an international grant in the field of VaVaI, b) there is a competition of projects from different countries, c) at least a part of obtained funds (private or public) comes from foreign resources.
