ERASMUS+

ERASMUS+

Charles University has been involved in the Erasmus Programme since 1999. The Faculty of Law welcomes over 200 Erasmus+ exchange students every year and about the same number of Czech law students spend at least one semester abroad at one of our more than 130 Erasmus+ partner universities. If you are studying at an institution that has an Erasmus+ agreement with the CU Law Faculty, you can apply for Erasmus+ study abroad in accordance with your home university/faculty regulations and join us as an exchange student in Prague!

The Faculty of Law of Charles University offers a wide range of courses taught in English and an internationally diverse environment where international students mingle with their Czech classmates.

Subject to the Erasmus+ policy of your home university we are happy to welcome you at the CU Faculty of Law for either one semester or for the full academic year!

Factsheet

You can find all the important dates and further information in our Factsheet or in the Charles University Erasmus+ webpage.

  • Application and Nomination Process
    • Check with your home university/faculty of law the selection rules and nomination process in the framework of Erasmus+ Programme.
    • Win the nomination to CU Faculty of Law by your home university/law faculty for one or two semesters.
    • Make sure your home university/law faculty nominates you within our nomination deadlines. Information about the nomination process is included in the CU Erasmus+ Factsheet that all Erasmus+ coordinators of partner universities receive from CU.
    • Once your nomination is accepted by CU, you will receive a confirmation email with further instructions. If you were nominated by your institution and have not received any information about the application process, please contact us at erasmus.incoming@ruk.cuni.cz.
    • Follow the instructions in the confirmation email! You will be required to fill in an online application form

    When filing the online application make sure that you fill out:

    • the CU Faculty of Law as the host faculty;
    • 421 – Law as the field of study;
    • the semester dates provided by the CU Faculty of Law.

    When selecting your courses, bear in mind the following guidelines:

    • at least 51 % of a student’s selected courses must be offered by their host faculty (i.e. the CU Faculty of Law)
    • fill out all the courses you wish to attend from the list of courses taught in English for international students;
    • you may also attend courses offered by other CU faculties, for more information contact the Erasmus+ coordinator at the relevant faculty;
    • changes in your study plan can be done at the beginning of the semester;
    • your study plan is subject to changes due to capacity limits or other reasons, and you will get the final confirmation at the beginning of the semester.

    Finalize the application process:

    1. Print your Application Form and the Learning Agreement.
    2. Sign the Learning Agreement and have it approved and signed by the respective coordinator at your home university/faculty.
    3. Even if your home university/faculty requires another Erasmus+ form, the CU online application still must be filed (in this case, two sets of documents must be signed).
    4. Send a scan of the signed forms to maresova@prf.cuni.cz.
    5. You will receive the final notification of acceptance from the European Office of Charles University (not from the CU Faculty of Law).

    Get ready for your trip:

    1. Apply for your entry visa (if applicable) ASAP;
      TIP

      Please note that the visa application process may be quite lengthy. We strongly recommend starting the visa application process as soon as you receive all the necessary documents. Unfortunately, CU Faculty of Law cannot be of any assistance when it comes to the length and outcome of the visa application process.

    2. Find accommodation in Prague (unless your accommodation in CU dormitories has been confirmed).
    3. Get your local “buddy”. You can apply for assignment of your friend (a Czech student at CU Faculty of Law) online through Buddy Programme.
    4. Get information about Prague and the Czech Republic; knowing as much as possible before arrival will make you feel much more relaxed about the whole trip. We believe this might help.  You may further take a look at the Charles University Guide for International Students (2020 edition).

  • After Arrival

    Tentative semester dates:

    1. Registration and welcome meeting for all arriving foreign students takes place at the beginning of every semester (usually one week before classes start) - invitation will be sent out well in advance. You will get detailed on-site information about the exchange programme and you will have the chance to meet your fellow international students. Local Student Associations might organize extracurricular events around the date of this meeting.

    2. Register for your courses in the first week of each semester through our online Student Information System. Courses indicated in your Application Form/Learning Agreement are subject to this online registration (usually the capacity of the courses is not limited, but there may be exceptions to this general rule). How to register your courses online can be found here.

    3. Exchange students may also attend LL.M. courses in English if the class capacity allows. Registration takes place in the first week of each semester.

      TIP

      Exchange students get credits for their LL.M. courses, but are not eligible for the degree. Shall you decide to return to Prague to get your LL.M. degree after your graduation from your home university, the LL.M. courses you have passed successfully during your exchange stay will be recognized.

    4. Exams are held at the end of each semester. The form of the final assessment (written/oral exams, take-home essays) is to be found in the course information in the Student Information System and you will also receive this information at the introductory session of each course. During the winter semester exams are generally held before the Christmas holidays, during the summer semester in May/June, except for alternative or re-sit exams that may be scheduled for another time. Transcript of Records and Confirmation of the Exchange Study Period will be sent to your home university upon completion of your exchange stay. Grading system can be found here.

      TIP

      Check with your home university/faculty of law the rules on recognition of credits earned at the CU Faculty of Law for successful completion of the courses.

      TIP

      CU Faculty of Law is dedicated to supporting students with special needs. Check our counselling services in advance! Individual arrangements may be facilitated with respect to participation in classes and final assessments (in such case your home university should consult with us in advance before sending the nomination).
