Department of Medical Law

The Department of Medical Law of the Charles University Faculty of Law was established under the name Centre for Medical Law on 1st July 2007 and transformed into a department on 1 October 2022. It is involved in teaching and research activities in the area of medical law, including theoretical research and courses on medical law for students as well as the academic staff of the university, and awareness campaigns regarding law-making and the application of law in healthcare. The Department coordinates its work with other university departments, as well as non-academic institutions and entities.

The Department of Medical Law offers several elective subjects taught in Czech (Medical Law I, Medical Law II, and Medical Law - Case Studies) and English. Their content reflects the multidisciplinary nature of medical law. The Department also provides courses for LL.M. and Erasmus students, including an English language LL.M. programme Health and Law.
