Faculty of Law

With more than 4000 students, the Faculty of Law is the largest accredited Law Faculty in the country. Many of its alumni hold prominent positions in the central and regional administration, in public service, as well as in advocacy and private business.

The Czech universities have been invited to participate in the European dimension in higher education since the academic year 1998–1999. Since this year (based on the Europe Agreement on Association – Decision of the Association Council No. 2/1997) the Faculty of Law has gradually been involved, together with universities in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Malta etc. in the student and teaching staff mobility scheme within the SOCRATES/ERASMUS Programme of the European Union (later LLP-Erasmus Programme).

Courses offered at the Law Faculty in English have been covered by the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The Faculty also admits students from outside of the EU/EFTA Member States under the exchange programmes of inter-governmental cultural agreements and inter-university agreements.

Nowadays, about 130 law students from the Member States of the European Union nominated by their home Universities can spend one or two terms in Prague, while approx 140 Czech law students from Law Faculty of Charles University go abroad for a comparable period. Since the year 2011 the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague seeks to make another step towards modern forms of continuous education by opening its own LL.M.
