Representatives of the Department of Legal History spoke at a prestigious ESIL workshop in Malaga
On Thursday, September 3, 2026, the University of Malaga hosted a workshop of the International Law of Culture Interest Group (ESIL) entitled "The International Law of Culture at a Crossroads: Past Developments and Future Directions." The workshop focused on current challenges, reforms, and developmental trends in the field of international cultural law.
The Department of Legal History was represented at this significant international event by Mgr. Zuzana Löbling, Ph.D. and Mgr. Igor Hron, Ph.D. with their joint paper: "Post-1989 Restitution as a Durable Legal Framework: Why It Still Shapes Cultural Justice Today."
In their presentation, they analyzed property restitutions after 1989 and their long-term impact on shaping the modern concept of cultural justice. During the professional discussion, they also presented the ongoing faculty project Primus – Reshaping Museum Collections After 1989, which focuses on the transformation and provenance of museum collections in Central and Eastern Europe following the fall of communist regimes.
Participation in the workshop not only provided valuable feedback from the international legal community but also strengthened the international dimension of research conducted at the Department of Legal History.
