Exhibition on the History of the Building of the Faculty of Law, Charles University
The exhibition The Faculty of Law, Charles University – a Journey Through History is on display in the faculty's "Swimming Pool" until April 11. It showcases the history of the faculty's building from its early stages, when its design began to take shape through sketches by Professor Jan Kotera. The exhibition also features photographs of Block IV of the reclamation area along the riverbank, near which the Svatopluk Cech Bridge was later built, and which was designated for the construction of the Faculty of Law. We can see the empty space at that time, with a group of people, likely representatives of the university or relevant authorities, probably inspecting the site of the future construction. The construction site itself is also depicted, with workers contributing to the building the new school.
A collection of black-and-white photographs from the Graphic Workshop of Jan Stenc, which forms the core of the exhibition, captures the new building as a harmonious space through its meticulously composed shots. Its perfectly geometric design, combined with light, emphasizes its stylistic purity, elegance, and majesty, ultimately giving it a poetic feel.
Jan Kotera's sketches and the aforementioned photographs from the 1930s are part of the Charles University archive. The exhibition concludes with colour photographs by Marek Vanes, showing the current appearance of the building, including the newly reconstructed café, relaxation zone, and lecture hall No. 120.
You are warmly invited to visit this exhibition, which has been prepared by the Strategic Development Department in collaboration with the Communication and PR Department as part of the Revitalization of the Building of the Faculty of Law, Charles University – Faculty 2.0 project.
