A new 4 EU+ research project will address the prospective use of AI in public administration
The team of researchers from Charles University, the University of Copenhagen, the University of Milan, the University of Geneva and the University of Barcelona have initiated a new 4 EU+ research project, which will address the prospective use of AI in public administration from a legal perspective. The research project aims to reflect the fact that several jurisdictions in Europe have already adopted legislation, providing for rules on the use of AI in public administration. These developments clearly show that the era of anthropocentric (human-centred) administration has come to an end. AI will definitely play a much larger, if not a massive role, role in public administration in the future. The research project aims to analyse these developments and outline the way forward.
The main event organised under the umbrella of this project will be an international conference entitled Swan Song of Anthropocentric Administration in Europe. The event will take place at the Law Faculty, Charles University in Prague, on 27 and 28 November 2025. It will be opened by a presentation of a brand-new book on AI and Public Administration, written by Professor Diana-Urania Galetta (University of Milan).
The written versions of presentations delivered at this international conference will be published in a special issue of the CERIDAP, a journal being published by the Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Public Administration at the University of Milan.
At our Law Faculty, Professor Jakub Handrlica and his colleagues from the Department of Administrative Law (Vladimir Sharp, Liliia Serhiichuk, Katerina Pechmannová, Jan Nešpor and Christopher De la Cruz) will be part of the research team of this newly launched project.
