FDI moot court – a newly opened class at the Law Faculty

Join a new class, learn about an interesting and growing area of international law and practise your advocacy skills.

This semester the new "FDI moot court" class, which prepares students for the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Arbitration Moot, will be opened for those students who want to get practical experience in investment arbitration and test their abilities against international competition.

The FDI Moot is an annual competition designed to simulate investor-state arbitration. During the class, students will focus on the research of legal issues, drafting memoranda and practising arguments in oral pleadings. The class will be taught in English by doc. JUDr. Vladimír Balaš, CSc together with team coaches Veronika Kinclová and Michal Stanek.

We are seeking motivated students who wish to participate in this year’s competition, which will take place at the University of Buenos Aires, from 4-6 November 2016. Last year's team, with the support of Clifford Chance's Prague office, were awarded second place for the best memorandum for the Claimant (investor) and received two honourable mentions for best speaker (a recognition awarded to only ten of the best speakers from the 51 teams that participated in the final oral rounds of the competition).

The FDI Moot is a great opportunity to join a fun and successful team, and to perfect your writing and presentation skills. It is also a unique opportunity to kick-start your future law career, as many of the FDI Moot alumni can confirm.

For more information about the class or the FDI Moot visit http://www.fdimoot.org/ or contact the team coaches at veronika.kinclova @ cliffordchance.com or michal.stanek @ allenovery.com.
