Doc. Sedláček Spoke at the Jubilee 20th International Conference on Public and Private Justice in Dubrovnik

Doc. JUDr. Miroslav Sedláček, Ph.D., LL.M., from the Department of Civil Law at the Faculty of Law, Charles University, took part in the prestigious international conference Public and Private Justice: Dispute Resolution in Modern Societies, held on 25–29 May 2026 and organized by the Inter-University Centre (IUC) in Dubrovnik. This year's edition marked the conference's 20th anniversary and focused thematically on the digital transformation of civil justice.

The Public and Private Justice conference is one of the most significant academic forums on civil procedure and alternative dispute resolution in Europe and worldwide. Participation is by personal invitation only, and each year it brings together a select group of leading experts in civil procedural law from universities in Europe, North America, South America, and Asia.

At the conference, doc. Sedláček presented a paper entitled "Algorithmic Decision-Making and Its Limits in Civil Justice," addressing the boundaries and risks of using algorithmic and AI-assisted decision-making in civil court proceedings. The paper was included in the conference's opening session, dedicated to general questions concerning the relationship between technological development and civil procedure.

Doc. Sedláček was the only active speaker from the Czech Republic at this year's conference, underscoring not only the high academic quality of his research in civil procedure and the digitalization of justice, but also the importance attributed to his work within the international academic community.

In addition to the academic program, the anniversary edition was accompanied by social activities, including a celebratory commemoration of the conference's 20th anniversary combined with an excursion to the national park on the island of Mljet.
