Academics from Italy, Finland, France, Poland and Canada discussed nuclear law at our Law Faculty

On 7-8 September 2026, the second working meeting of the 4EU+ project “OSCAL – New course on nuclear law” took place at the Prague Law Faculty.

This time, twenty academics from four participating universities of the European University Alliance (Milan, Paris Pantheon-Assas, Prague and Warsaw) attended. This time, colleagues from Finland (University of Eastern Finland) and Canada (University of Calgary) also joined us.

The first day of the working meeting focused on preparing the new textbook "Alessia Monica/Jakub Handrlica (eds), New course on nuclear law in Europe", which will be published by the Italian publishing house Editoriale Scientifica in 2027. On the first day, Seita Vesa and Kaisa Huhta from the University of Eastern Finland also gave an interesting lecture on the mutual relations between energy, environmental, and climate law, under the auspices of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

On the second day, participants visited the V-1 research reactor, operated by the Czech University of Technology in Holešovice, Prague. This was followed by an interesting lecture by Kim Fyhr (University of Eastern Finland) on commissioning a deep repository in Finland, the first facility of its kind in the world. The working meeting concluded with planning for further cooperation, including preparing a joint international Horizon grant or ERC proposal.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Prague branch of the international law firm White & Case for supporting our working meeting.

Special thanks go to the assistants of the Department of Administrative Law - Lucie Vonásková, Natália Holubová and Petr Novák - for their organisational assistance, without which the meeting would not have been possible.
