Michal Urban is Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science and Sociology and Head of the Department of Legal Skills at the Faculty of Law of Charles University. He also serves as the Coordinator for Innovation in Studies in the Dean's College of the Faculty of Law, Charles University. He specializes in legal education, didactics of law and sociology of law. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Charles University ( Master, JUDr. and Ph.D. degrees) and the Faculty of Education of Charles University ( Master). Since 2009 he has been leading the Prague Street Law programme.

He is a member of the European Network for Clinical Legal Education, the Global Alliance for Justice Education, the Czech Government Council for Human Rights and Paedagogium, an advisory body of the Charles University in the field of pedagogical competences. He regularly participates in domestic and international thematic conferences, in particular the International Journal of Clinical Legal Education, Global Alliance for Justice Education and conferences and round tables organized by Czech law schools. He completed a longer study stay at St. Patrick's College in Dublin, Ireland (part of Dublin City University) and shorter ones at Georgetown University, Washington D.C., University of South Carolina, Northumbrian University, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and York University.

Michal Urban is the holder of the Silver Medal for his significant work in the field of sociology of law, didactics of law and scientific and pedagogical activities at Charles University. With the Street Law team, he received the Arnošt z Pardubic UK Award for Outstanding Achievement and the Pro Bono & CSR Award 2017 from the magazine Právní rádce. Under his leadership, the Department of Legal Skills, or its predecessor, the Centre for Legal Skills, won the Praemium Excellentiae Award for outstanding teaching activity in the Faculty for the best teaching department in 2021 and 2023.

In his educational activities at the Faculty of Law of Charles University, he focuses mainly on legal didactics, sociology of law and other social science topics, especially those close to professional ethics. For a long time, he also headed the student legal advisory service at the Prague City Hall. At the Faculty of Education of Charles University, he teaches didactics of law and foundations of law. For the last few years, he has also been running didactic courses for teachers at Charles University within the framework of the Centre for Lifelong Learning of Charles University. He also provides training in artificial intelligence tools. He also teaches didactic skills courses at the University of Pardubice and Masaryk University.
